About the Artwork

This illustration is inspired by mid-century picture books and the long tradition of animals being used to deliver truths humans don’t always want to hear.

The frog, in particular, is a natural activist icon — from the iconic peace frog imagery of the ’60s to the modern Portland protest frog carried at marches and mutual-aid events. Frogs have become shorthand for persistence, disruption, and refusing to stay quiet when ecosystems (political or literal) are under threat.
